Writing anything that’s recurring, a blog, a newspaper column (they still have those right?), or a Substack, can test one’s levels of creativity. I now have a lot more respect for columnists like Dave Bary who routinely turned out humorous writings. So with that in mind, I think it’s time to offer something a bit different for this Substack. I want to make a semi-regular posting where I describe or show funny, interesting, humorous things I or others have sent me. I hope it will provide a nice break from the longer-form work I tend to do here at the ol’ stack of sub.
My first one comes from a long line of road salting crews finding and having fun with their spreader trucks. This spreader-truck Maryland, a state known for its seafood, decided to make a sort of inside joke. I mean I get it, but it probably hits a little harder for Maryland residents than it does for me.
The next one comes from my flight home from Pensacola. The TSA agent was instructing people to move forward and said, “Come on up. All you need is an ID with a face to match.” This clever little talking point made me and couple other people smile. I wish I had been in his line, so I could thank and compliment him, but alas, I hadn’t paid for TSA Pre-check.
The final one for today comes from outside a little donut store in Kernersville, NC. I was walking in and noticed a couple chairs in front of the nail shop next door. There were three and they all had the same little message playfully written on them. A clever and fun way to secure the chairs and without all the weight of a chain and lock.
That’s all I have for us today. More as I get them. If you have any examples or pics, please drop them in the comments.
